One of the two most important ethnographic collections in Switzerland !
As one of the ten most visited tourist destinations in French-speaking Switzerland, the MEG is an architectural symbol in the Plainpalais district. It is a deeply human museum that addresses the major societal and environmental issues of our time. Its collections can be explored through magnificent exhibitions, whether permanent or temporary, which highlight the MEG's treasures in fascinating immersive settings. The permanent exhibition route, which allows visitors to discover the cultures and societies of our world, consists of seven main sections: an introduction dedicated to the history of the collections, one section per continent, and a space devoted to ethnomusicology. In contrast to these testimonies of the past, visitors can delve into societal issues by exploring the temporary exhibitions. In 2017, the MEG received the prestigious EMYA award, the European Museum Prize, the highest distinction for a museum in Europe. But the MEG is not limited to exhibitions. Designed as a true cultural hub, it offers a wide range of activities: performances, concerts, conferences, film screenings, workshops, and guided tours are just a sample of the experiences available to the public, in harmony with the museum's exhibitions. It also features a Café, a Library, a Music Lounge, and a flowered esplanade.
