Festival FILMAR en América Latina

FILMAR en América Latina is the most important festival dedicated to Latin American cinema and culture in Switzerland.
Founded in 1999 and based in Geneva, FILMAR en América Latina supports independent cinema and filmmakers from Latin America. Every year in November, it offers the opportunity to view works rooted in the social and political realities of the continent, through classics and new films, many of them previews. It's also a platform that puts the spotlight on minorities, including indigenous and Afro-descendant cultures, as well as LGBTIAQ+ communities.

Activist and committed films, testimonials, retrospectives of film personalities, first works by emerging talents: the programming reflects the richness, diversity and memories of the Latin American continent in seven sections.

FILMAR is also a place for exchanges and encounters between Geneva audiences and Latin American filmmakers who come to Geneva for the occasion. In partnership with Swiss institutions and non-profit organizations, roundtables and conferences on current issues are organized. Festival-goers are also invited to the fiestas, where they can discover Latin American cuisine and music at the FILMAR fiestas.

FILMAR en América Latina is also committed to its young audience: a targeted program is offered to budding film buffs. With FILMARcito, children are invited to discover feature films and series of short films as a family or as part of an after-school program. At the same time, throughout the year, FILMAR School presents school screenings adapted to all levels and a wide range of disciplines.

Each edition closes with a ceremony awarding the Audience Prize and the Youth Jury Prize to the two films in the FOCUS SUD and OPERA PRIMA competition sections.
