The question of mysticism seems more essential than ever in the particularly troubled times in which we are all living. A quest for transcendence, religious or profane, an intense and intimate desire for union with something greater than oneself – God, Nature, or any other Truth – it goes beyond differences and divisions and appears fundamentally universal. Through music, mysticism encourages us to pay different attention to what surrounds us as well as to ourselves.
The mystical path, which aspires to the highest spheres, is no less profoundly practical and human. It therefore appeals to the senses and the body as much as to the mind and spirit. Poetry, like music and dance, represent his areas of excellence, because they open up particularly rich and favorable spaces for expression.
The Music and Mysticism festival sought to echo this diversity through a journey inviting spectators to live intense experiences, going well beyond simple concerts: African-American percussion of the Orisha deities, Sufi choirs and whirlings from North Africa and the Middle East, Hindu or Christian devotional songs, dancing masks from Tibetan Buddhism and many other worlds...
So that this festival, like a journey, calls for joy and wonder.
