IJAHMAN LEVI + CULTURE
Roots reggae essentials' legends !!! Come on !!
IJAHMAN LEVI
Singer, composer and producer of Jamaican reggae, Ijahman Levi is one of the mythical artists of roots reggae. Influenced by Alton Ellis and Joe Higgs, his passion for music began at an early age, and he regularly sang in the streets of Kingstown, where he met Bob Marley. After releasing several tracks and collaborating on Rico Rodriguez's famous Africa, he moved to Jamaica and worked with the country's top producers. It was there that he recorded his first album and set up his own label, Jahmani.
Like other Jamaican artists of the same musical generation, such as Bob Marley, Burning Spear, U Roy, Joseph Hill of the group Culture, Albert Griffiths of the Gladiators, Ijahman has always remained master of his work, which now totals 36 albums, without ever deviating from his original sensibility, strictly Roots and Culture.
CULTURE
The Jamaican trio Culture formed in Jamaica in the 70s, led by Joseph Hill. Tinged with their Rasta faith, militant and highly critical lyrics and prophetic, even apocalyptic lyrics, the group created a skilful blend of roots, culture and political commitment. Following Joseph's death, his son Kenyatta took over. Influenced by dancehall music and rooted in the roots tradition, Kenyatta began to write. Motivated to finish his father's work, he also created new songs for memorable live performances!
