Kilmotor
An exhibition of Helge Reumann
Apart from its retrospective aspect, the exhibition also presents new work including a large installation of drawings, painted murals and collaborations with young artists and well-known cartoonists whose world views match his own.
Between creativity and invention, comic strip artists often share a language with visual artists. Helge Reumann navigates between them ignoring artificial boundaries which sometimes make their practices exclusive. The Kilmotor exhibition acknowledges this permeability by presenting as many pieces on paper – including plates – as other formats which appear in different storeys of the Villa Bernasconi. We rapidly learn that his work escapes expectations, cliché and simple cartoon boxes.
